Exchange Student Hosts Needed

AFS-USA, America's largest exchange student program, is searching for host families in the National Capital region, especially in Anne Arundel County; as of today, there are NO host families from our entire county!

Each family receives a student like one of those in the attached document, for either a semester or a full school year.

My family hosted a German exchange student this year, and it was one of the best experiences we've ever had. My sister went on exchange to Sardinia, Italy last year and can personally vouch for the value of these experiences.

Please take a look at the attached information and contact Chana Hays if you are interested. She can be reached at 202.265.8744 or fhays1835@aol.com, or you can log onto www.afsusa.org.

CRASC Takes Stand on School Funding

At the Executive Board Meeting last night, April 1, at Arlington Echo, the CRASC Executive Board voted unanimously to strongly oppose County Executive Leopold's request for a waiver to the state's Maintenance of Effort requirement.

The requirement ensures that even in times of economic downturn, localities fund their school systems adequately. County Executive Leopold has now requested a waiver from the Maryland State Department of Education to cut school funding by $7 million over last year's budget, leaving the county $9 million short of its funding requirement.

Nominations are now being accepted for 2009-2010 CRASC Officer Positions

Update:Nominations have now closed. Please attend our elections this Wednesday, April 8 at Severna Park High School.

Nominations for the 2009-2010 CRASC Officer positions will be accepted until Wednesday, April 1, 2009. See attachments for nomination form, election timeline, as well as, job descriptions and qualifications for each office.
